HAIR LOSS Prevention rather than cure

Understanding why some people lose their hair prematurely and what measures can be taken to prevent it happening

By on 29 Mar, 2019

Hair loss without doubt is very distressing.  Whether it is inherited, from illness or just from using chemicals and harsh shampoos, it is something that cannot be restored overnight as the hair follicle and hair shaft will take a long time to recover.  Prevention is always better than cure, and using better haircare products, detoxing from chemical applications and having a healthy lifestyle will reduce the risks of it becoming a serious problem. Most importantly having a better understanding of why hair is lost will help guide those that are vulnerable to hair loss in a better direction towards prevention.

WHY WE LOSE HAIR: We are all born with approximately 25 hair lifecyles.  A lifecycle refers to the time each hair lasts in the scalp to the time it falls from the head and each hair lifecycle can range from 1 year to 5 years with the shorter hair lifecycle contributing towards premature hair loss.  The diminishing length of a hair lifecycle in both men and women can be caused by or is the result of a variety of reasons.  In 95% of all cases it is hereditary hairloss (Androgenic Alopecia) affecting up to 70% of all men, and 30-40% of women (mostly after the menopause).

TYPICAL CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS:
Hereditary hair loss (Androgenetic Alopecia) - Genetically caused, often when the hair roots are sensitive to the body's own hormone DHT (Dihydrotestosterone); hair thins gradually with age, often over several decades. For women the affect is mostly around the centre parting and for men, it represents a receeding hairline to the point of baldness.

Diffuse hair loss  (Telogen Effluvium) - This can be caused by nutrient and vitamin deficit, stress, hormonal and thyroid imbalances, agressive chemical hair products, infection, trauma, medicine and/or auto-immune disorders.  The appearance is the hair thinning all over the whole scalp.  In most cases the effects are temporary, and if the cause of loss is treated then generally the hair loss dissapears.

Spot baldness  (Alopecia Areata) - Affects approx. 1-2% of the worlds population.  Causes are not entirely clear but could be due to auto-immune disorder and/or shock.  For both men and women the appearance is of circular bald areas on the scalp.
Each person typically has between 100,000-150,000 individual scalp hairs and on average 100 fall out each day.  Exceeding this rate over a long period results in hair loss and certainly the thinning of hair. There are many pharmaceutical options that claim to help the hair grow back however some can be potentially irriating and have possible adverse side effects.

Our advice is to use a natural serum which will strengthen the hair follicle and stimulate the blood vessels.  Less is More Phytonutrient is a serum with highly advanced phyto-based ingredients that uses a combination of biological and bio-technological plant actives which help to prevent hair loss, stimulate growth, slow down the ageing of the hair and make the hair follicle and hair strand stronger, thus providing more volume.  The natural ingredients included in this product also protect and calm irritated scalps, and their anti-oxidants combat the negative effects of chemical treatments.

Key ingredients include:
ROOIBOS (Aspalathus Linearis Extract) - Improves the hair lifecycle rate, and appearance of hair.  Is anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, skin soothing, antimicrobial.

GINSENG (Panax Ginseng Root Extract) - The Ginsenosides from Panax Ginseng promote hair growth via a similar mechanism as the chemical drug Minoxidil.

LAD'S LOVE (Artemisia Abrotanum Extract) - Promotes the development of new blood vessels.

UTTWILER SPÄTLAUBER STEM CELL EXTRACT (Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture Extract) - A liposomal preparation of apple stem cells of the old Swiss apple variety "Uttwiler Spätlauber". These apple stem cells are rich in epigenetic factors and metabolites which ensure the longevity of skin cells. In other words, it protects the skin stem cells and delays the deteriation (ageing process) of the hair follicles.

PEA SPROUTS (Pisum Sativum Sprout Extract) - Stimulates specific signaling molecules in the dermal papilla and reactivates hair growth.

FENUGREEK (Trigonella Foenum - Graecum Fruit Extract) - An  anti-oxidative, and stimulates blood circulation.  Helps to increase catalase (slowing of greying hair)

ASIL 'HAIRY ROOTS' EXTRACT (Ocimum Basilicum Hairy Root Culture Extract) - Highly active against hair loss. Increases the proliferation of dermal papilla cells in the hair follicles.

Further ingredients include essential oils of Thyme, Lavender, Rosemary and Atlas Cedar; cold pressed plant oils and phospholipids from Evening Primrose, Rose Hip Seed, Wheat Germ, Grape Seed and Lecithin; Peppermint oil and Nettle oil.

The Less is More Phytonutrient Serum is an very effective natural alternative.  It doesn't claim to miraculously bring hair back from the dead, instead it helps to strengthen and preserve the existing hair in the scalp, so that hair loss doesnt become the nightmare waiting to happen.
